Welcome to Bodyhood Pilates

We are a Pilates studio in the 7th district of Vienna, Austria. We teach according to the Bodyhood© approach, which is a modern expanded application on the works of J. H. Pilates.

Joseph H. Pilates developed the Pilates Method in order to

attain and maintain a uniformly developed body with a sound mind, fully capable of naturally, easily and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.

Our Bodyhood Pilates approach expands this concept. We integrate thoughts, speech and actions in a manner that will help you to promote a healthy way of being and living at all times, in all places, and in all areas of activity - including economics, education, entertainment, labour, law, politics, religion, war and sex.

My Body - A Teaching Tool

The Bodyhood Pilates training gives you knowledge and wisdom to understand your body not as a mere machine, but as a teaching tool for your mind - in your journey to "a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily and satisfactorily performing your many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure" (J. H. Pilates).

We provide you with workable, practical and compensatory tools. These tools will help you to understand your body; and to use that understanding to produce balance, harmony and vitality at all times, in all places and in all areas of activity.

Moving Effortlessly – Power Without Force

The one who exercises with force gains muscles
The one who exercises with sensitivity gains power
The one who exercises to know Pilates gains knowledge
The one who exercises to know oneself gains wisdom.
Afca Dawa

"Power without force" - "the path of least resistance" – does not simply mean to make work more effortless, but to bring all of yourself together towards one goal and one direction. In the end this actually really makes any work more effortless, because the emphasis is placed on the function and not on the structure, which is essential.

Do not let us confuse that, which is interesting, with that, which is useful. A high quantity of fanciful Pilates exercise-routines is interesting, but a functional Pilates exercise programme (link it to functional movement) is useful. The Bodyhood approach teaches Pilates functionally. It will not only appear, but also function as Joseph H. Pilates originally intended it – deeply relevant to the way you live.

The Meaning of our Logo

schnecke-transparent_pink_orig_400 neu_1.pngThe spherical form of our logo is the structural functionalism symbol. It symbolises the antithetical function of energy:
tension and relaxation
contraction and expansion
moving towards and moving away from the centre
moving away and moving towards the world.

To move is easy
to move how you want
requires an idea
of how to move.
Movement precedes experience
Experience precedes learning
Learning changes how we move
how we move changes how we live
how we live
changes how we love.
